Prior to the works, this fairly anonymous 1980s industrial building would have been written off by many. Decades of generic fit-outs and dropped ceilings had left little visible sense of identity. Rather than pursuing wholesale redevelopment, the project questioned how far a restrained, design-led refurbishment could transform a space.

A careful strip-back of over 40 years of layers revealed the building's underlying industrial qualities. The scheme centred around high-impact, low-cost interventions and real-time decisions on site, minimising waste, avoiding unnecessary additions, and letting the building speak for itself. Exposed slab, blockwork and industrial shutters were retained and embraced throughout.

Targeted thermal upgrades and a full external refresh featuring deep red cladding and off-white brickwork gave the building a renewed identity while remaining true to its industrial context.

The fit-out incorporates modular partition systems- a reusable timber construction system designed for disassembly and future adaptation, reinforcing a wider commitment to circularity and material reuse.

Vyner Studios now sits amongst a diverse mix of artists, makers, architectural practices, film companies and industrial occupiers.
